Southeast Michigan is home to numerous arts collectives that provide a wealth of creative opportunities. Organizations such as these are often co-owned and operated by individuals who share a common goal of enriching the community through the arts. The Regional Arts Collaboratives Showcase aims to present the work of some of the best regional arts groups. Each group is invited to gather some of their best work for an exhibition and opening event. The exhibit includes Spur Studios in Ypsilanti; 555 Gallery and Studios, Detroit; Public Pool, Hamtramck; and The WORK Collective, Toledo. The missions and goals of the groups vary. The WORK Collective is a digital media, video projection and performance group. Spur Studios is a collection of private work spaces for artists, musicians, and other creative people who need a place to get things done. Artists play an integral role in the life of the local community. The same holds for Public Pool that holds exhibits for small groups of artists as interactive community events. 555 Gallery and Studios is a volunteer artist-run arts organization providing affordable studios and workspace, exhibition programs, arts education programs, and an artist residency program. For 105 years, the Ann Arbor Art Center has been sparking creativity in people of all ages and artistic abilities. The mission of the Art Center is to be a contemporary forum for the visual arts through education, exploration, collaboration and exhibition, and to engage minds, expand perspectives and inspire growth in students of all ages, teachers, artists and the community. Through innovative programming, thought-provoking exhibitions, a gallery shop offering hand-made, local artworks, and a variety of hands-on learning opportunities, the Art Center engages over 55,000 people annually who are inspired to explore the power of the visual arts.
